The Boston Celtics have ended their NBA season after losing to the New York Knicks 119-81 and being eliminated from the NBA playoffs. It has now been revealed that while Jayson Tatum sat out due to an Achilles injury, Jaylen Brown played for the Boston Celtics with a partially torn right meniscus while taking pain-relieving injections. This underscores the lengths NBA players go to in order to give everything for their team on the court.
Jaylen Brown played through knee injury
Talking to reporters after the Friday game, Jaylen Brown said, “I don’t make excuses. Obviously, it’s tough the way we went out like tonight, but the way we finished the year, personally, the way I finished the year, persevering through some physical stuff that I was battling through, I’m proud of our group.”
According to ESPN, Brown had received pain injections in his knee since March, and he may need surgery to repair the partially torn right meniscus. The Boston Celtics shooting guard missed three regular-season games due to the injury but bounced back by modifying his playing style despite the pain. He still managed to average 22.1 points and 7.1 rebounds in 36.5 minutes per game.
Reacting to the news, an X user wrote, “NBA should fine them into oblivion for not reporting this. Too much money riding on these games now for this b******t.” Another said, “Something needs to change about the NBA season. The playoffs are becoming whichever team is healthiest wins. There’s no other sport ie hockey, baseball, soccer, & football that has this many injuries postseason.” One more said, “We don’t announce injuries remember? LeBron and Austin were hurt those don’t count.” Some also commented, “The Knicks can only beat injured teams.”
Some also refused to believe Brown. “Here we go with the excuses,” wrote an X user. Another said, “Ok these are fine but can someone explain they keep announcing this AFTER the series is over and team has lost?” But a fan praised him, saying, “no excuses guy. Tough player. One of the Good Ones.”
