Soon after the Los Angeles Lakers fell in battle against the Minnesota Timberwolves, 103-96, paparazzi and social media went abuzz with one question: Will the most senior player in the squad, LeBron James, bring the curtains down on his illustrious career? The Lakers’ power forward is 40 and has already fulfilled his dream of playing with his son, Bronny James, 20, who was inducted into the team last year.

LeBron James on retirement

Soon after their loss, LeBron James was surrounded by speculations about his retirement. When asked about any plans to retire from the NBA, LeBron James said, “I don’t know, I don’t have the answers to that. I’ll sit down with my family and my wife and my support group and we’ll kind of talk through it and see what happens. And just have a conversation with myself on how long I want to continue to play. I don’t have an answer to that right now. We’ll see.’’

LeBron James contract with Los Angeles Lakers

According to a USA Today report. James has a $101.3 million contract over a period of two years. He is currently in the first year of that deal and has two options: he can either continue and receive the remaining $52 million in the upcoming year, or he can become a free agent. As per reports, he may choose to become a free agent and sign a short-term deal with the Lakers.

Unlike his new teammate Luka Dončić, James doesn’t face any pressure of being traded to another team. His contract includes a no-trade clause, which means he cannot be moved without his consent. If he does agree to a trade, he will receive a 15 percent bonus, to be paid by the Los Angeles Lakers.
