Saif Ali Khan recently responded to Karan Johar’s bold comment about stars not guaranteeing box office hits, humorously interpreting it as a suggestion to cut pay cheques.
Speaking to India Today, Saif shared his views on the film industry's economics and the complexities surrounding star salaries.Responding to Karan's statement, Said laughed and said, “He wants to cut pay cheques. I think I should have my own union on that. I am sure he is right, but it makes me a little nervous when we hear about cutting pay cheques. No cutting pay cheques!”

Saif further acknowledged the industry's current state, explaining that stars sometimes demand high fees, which people pay. He noted that the film industry functions like a financial center where risks are taken, adding, “But Karan Johar knows best.”

He further discussed Karan's concerns, stating that stars charging huge amounts without delivering results cannot continue for long. “We don’t charge that much. We’re recession-proof,” he remarked.

Karan Johar had previously shared similar concerns during a roundtable discussion with The Hollywood Reporter India, mentioning stars like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn not performing well despite their high fees. He stressed his refusal to pay inflated salaries, questioning how one can ask for Rs 40 crore when the budget is only Rs 40 crore.

On the work front, Saif Ali Khan is gearing up for the release Devara: Part 1, where he plays the role of Bhairava. The film, starring Jr NTR and marking Janhvi Kapoor's Telugu debut, will be released on September 27. The film is also releasing in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
