#Single Movie Review : Not pathbreaking, but a cheerful, pop culture-packed buddy comedy

Critic's Rating: 3.0/5
Story: Vijay (Sree Vishnu), a cheerful bank employee is determined to end his single status. His pursuit of love leads him to Purva (Ketika Sharma), sparking off a series of charming attempts to woo her. Just as things begin to move forward, Harini (Ivana), a spirited young woman, enters the scene—turning his love life into a comedic triangle. Who did Vijay ultimately end up with?

Review: #Single directed by Caarthick Raju banks on camaraderie, comic timing, and pop culture references to deliver a fun-filled watch. Sree Vishnu and Vennela Kishore are in their element, with their on-screen friendship forming the heartbeat of the film. Their banter, expressions, and ease in playing off one another keep the narrative lively. The duo smartly weave trending cinematic tropes and pop culture references into their humour—whether it’s mimicking popular film stars or slipping in one-liners that reflect the times.

Ketika Sharma and Ivana, though not given deeply layered roles, perform effectively and contribute to the film’s cheerful energy. Rajendra Prasad, despite a limited role, brings his trademark to the screen. The cast also includes VTV Ganesh, Prabhas Sreenu, and Kalpa Latha.

Caarthick Raju’s direction keeps the tone light and breezy. The film never attempts to dive deep—Single is crafted as a feel-good entertainer. That said, the plot occasionally leans on stereotypical humour, which may not resonate with everyone. Still, when viewed in the spirit of light-hearted fun, most of it lands well. The short runtime of 129 minutes works in the film’s favour, preventing it from overstaying its welcome. A more robust storyline and a tighter screenplay—especially in the second half—could have taken Single from simply enjoyable to truly memorable.

The music by Vishal Chandrashekhar adds a pleasant background hum to the film, while R. Velraj’s cinematography captures the mood and tonality effectively.

#Single is a cheerful, no-fuss comedy that thrives on chemistry, comic timing, and a generous dose of pop culture. It may not offer depth, but if you’re in the mood for a breezy, entertaining ride, this one might just do the trick.
